Vesta Spray ~ Keeper of the Sacred Flame - Temple Priestess

Vesta was the keeper of the Sacred Flame, and in ancient times, all fires in a village had to come from the Sacred Flame in the Temple of Vesta (Hestia.) 

The Temples were also home to the secret sexual rites of Priestesses who were known as Virgins. The Vestal Virgins were not originally sexually chaste...the original meaning of the word meant "a woman or a Goddess who was 'independent' and 'autonomous' and not attached or owned by any man." Sexual rites were performed in the Temple as a form of worship to the Goddess Vesta, and men and women alike would visit the gates of the Goddess to understand their life's purpose. 

Eventually, when the Patriarchy took over power from the Matriarchy, the Vestal Virgins were forced to become chaste, and any sexual activity was punishable by death.
