Most of us deny that we feel jealousy, as it is generally an “unacceptable” emotion. Not only is it normal to feel jealousy and envy, it’s part of the process of feeling genuine happiness. Usually we band-aid it with an “I’m so happy for you!” while underneath we are resentful that we don’t have that. If we were to admit to ourselves that we are jealous, we can navigate the ocean of emotions that come up: envy, resentment, anger, rage. These emotions can either drown us or buoy us…depending on how we respond. Navigating Jealousy means allowing and acknowledging those emotions, then letting them flow back out again. The more we allow the water to wash over us, the easier it becomes to navigate. It’s not an easy process, but it’s worth the effort, because getting out the other end of that process will always leave us a gift in its wake!
